Hardware Setup
The Gear
I give particular attention to hardware, because tools the trade make.
Recording
- Custom-built API 96 I/O console (not inline, these don't have the tonal quality I require)
- Custom-built SSL 4000 E console (or 4000 G, I don't remember which one it is, don't care)
- Custom-built Neve 1037 preamps on 32 inputs for that magical beefy sound
- 11 API 512s for that sweet punch
- Studer A800 24 track with Dolby NR modules (always off, I like hiss, but I like to know that if I wanted to use NR, I could)
- 18 Ampex ATR-102 1/2″s (for a total of 9″, which is the only right amount of ″)
Monitoring
- My monitors are custom-built Genelec nearfields, custom-built ATC and KRK mid-fields
- Nine Bose subwoofers running in parallel for surgically precise stereo imaging
- Three custom-built Tannoys for precise translation checks, along with five custom-built Grotboxes
My FX rack is currently:
- Five TLA preamp modules
- Two custom built TLA bass preamp modules
- Two blueface UA 1176
- Four blackface UA 1176 (racist bastards)
- Three UA TLA 2A
- Two custom-matched Manley's 6202
- Eight custom built Distressors
- Three Pultec EQP-1, not matched, one is empty, but they look very cool
- Four Roland SH-201 Space Echo units, two have tape inside
- One custom-built WatKat
- Two buckets of custom built delay bucket buckets
- One Lexicon 480L
- One white Texas Instruments calculator looking like a 480L remote
- Two Alesis MidiVerb 4s
- One Alesis MidiVerb II (broken beyond repair)
